Marronage - Poet

Philidelphia, USA

mARRONAGe creates work that investigates the irreducible nature of blackness by delving into the historical impact of maroon societies in the past and the present, opening up what it means to be involved in the ongoing project of marronage. Their artwork takes on various forms, primarily sound, film, archival imagery, and poetics. mARRONAGe hopes to utilize academia to research how the poetics in the African diaspora has and continues to influence fugitive planning and black studies. As a second-generation Nigerian in the United States, mARRONAGe understands the importance of connecting African artists in the diaspora and Africa. mARRONAGe has released full-length albums (Ontological Terror Maps and Killing Me Inside), EPs, singles, and short film collages. His most recent release is titled "EP2 or PureForm isa Consequence of Perfect Blackdeath," which explores art critiques obsession with the purity of form and how such forms do not adequately register black aesthetic praxis. The EP serves as a sonic deconstruction of pure form and complete submergence into a black depth. mARRONAGe is currently working on a multimedia poetry project titled "Ontological Terror Mapping."
