Chris Low has taken photographs documenting his life and experiences since the age of ten. He first became attracted to punk in the late 1970s. At the age of eleven he embraced the emerging band and fanzine scene that would come to be known as ‘anarcho punk’ publishing three issues of the zine, Guilty of What? and taking up drumming. Since the early 1980s he has played, recorded and toured with legendary acts including Political Asylum, The Apostles, Oi Polloi, The Parkinsons, Quango and Part1. Following a career as a techno DJ and club runner in the late ‘80s-early ‘90s he has continued to DJ throughout Japan, America & Europe. He has written regularly for Vice magazine amongst other publications and has contributed to a number of books on punk, fanzines and subcultures.
In August 2016, an exhibition of his photography documenting five years of the Tokyo punk scene entitled “Up Yours! Tokyo Punk” was held at the Red Gallery in Shoreditch, London followed by further exhibitions in Japan, America, Mexico and throughout Europe. His work has been featured as a guest gallery on the site of renowned photographer and street-style anthropologist, Ted Polhemus and in I-D Magazine. He has designed record covers and graphics for Fucked Up, Rema Rema, Quango among others. In 2020 Chris launched a T-shirt label, Low Standards and wrote for Rive Gauche x Underground. He has contributed to the 2021 Dundee V&A Scottish Club Culture exhibition and is currently working on an anarcho-themed compilation album for the renowned Glasgow Optimo Espacio label with other projects to follow.
